April 2023 – Greenhouse Gas Emissions Study

Taylor Steel is pleased to announce that our company is undertaking a comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions study, covering both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

Scope 1 emissions refer to the direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by our company, such as fuel combustion in our vehicles and equipment. Scope 2 emissions, on the other hand, refer to indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity consumed by our company.

We will be working with industry experts to conduct the study and ensure that our findings are accurate and reliable. We are anticipating completion of the study in Q2 2023.

This study will allow us to identify the sources of our emissions, measure our impact on the environment, and develop strategies to reduce our GHG emissions. We believe that our efforts to reduce emissions will not only benefit the environment but also improve our overall sustainability and enhance the strong relationships we have with our stakeholders.

For service centres — companies like us, who buy, sell, and process but do not produce steel, the single largest impact on greenhouse gas emissions is what are classified as Scope 3 emissions. These include steel making emissions and emissions produced when transporting steel from producing mill to the service centre. Steel produced overseas (often with little or no environmental oversight) has to be shipped a long distance and therefore has a much larger GHG footprint than steel produced within close proximity to the service centre.  In fact, an imported coil from overseas can have up to 10X the greenhouse gas emissions as a coil produced locally.

We are proud of our dedication to our local steel producing partners which minimizes our impact on the environment compared to those in our industry who choose to import steel from steel mills located overseas.

We encourage our customers and suppliers to join us in our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Together, we can make a positive impact on the environment and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.

March 2023 – Acquisition of Coilpac 2010 Inc.

We are pleased to announce the acquisition of Coilpac, a well-established company servicing the steel industry from their location in Hamilton, Ontario.

We believe that Coilpac's expertise, experience, and facilities complement our existing suite of services. Coilpac will continue to operate independently as a subsidiary of Taylor Steel, and we look forward to collaborating with them to enhance our offerings to our customers.

At Taylor Steel, we are committed to processing and delivering the best quality flat rolled steel products to our customers, on time and at a fair price, and this acquisition supports that goal. We are proud to invest in our community and look forward to collaborating with other local businesses to drive economic growth and job creation.

March 2020 - Special Announcement - Coronavirus COViD-19

At Taylor Steel Inc, the health and safety of our employees and the service to our customers are always top priorities. With the coronavirus COViD-19 quickly spreading to multiple countries around the globe, we want to assure our employees, suppliers and customers that we are actively monitoring the situation and have developed an action plan to support and maintain our business activity with minimal disruption. We are closely monitoring information from Public Health officials, various Government and World Health networks.

For our employees, we have contracted the services of a registered nurse to support their health and wellbeing. The nurse is reinforcing proper hygiene techniques and assisting our employees with answers and concerns regarding COViD-19. We have implemented plans to limit non-essential business travel. Additionally, we are restricting vendors and visitors to our operations as well as employing social distancing measures for personnel at Taylor Steel. Ultimately, we will closely follow the guidance and directives of the various public health agencies.

For our customers, Taylor Steel Inc. is an “Essential Workplace and/or Business” as per the current exceptions list(s) issued by the Ontario and Ohio governments. As a critical supplier to our mill and manufacturing customers, Taylor Steel has developed contingency plans to ensure we can support and service their needs with minimal disruption. Fortunately, we have several operating plants that are geographically separated including one in Lordstown, Ohio. Additionally, we have a wide breadth of processing capability with overlap and planned redundancy in various processing facilities. Furthermore, many of our processing plants operate 7 days a week and 24 hours per day with four separate crews. We have the flexibility to shift our operating personnel to accommodate process demands in the event of employee absences.

With respect to our steel supply, we are confident in our strong relationships with domestic suppliers that will ensure a consistent supply chain, however, we understand that supply could change at any point in time with short notice. We have inventory on hand in various buildings with a full range of products. We have consciously relied on domestic supply and will continue to work closely with our long-term supply chain partners to ensure minimal inventory disruptions.

The impact of the COViD-19 pandemic will change rapidly over the foreseeable future. We strongly believe in the commitment and dedication of our valued employees to work together to ensure our company remains robust and viable through these difficult and unpredictable times.

We thank all our employees, customers and suppliers for the valued relationships and partnerships and assure you that we will do our very best to achieve long-term success. We will provide updates to you during this challenging situation. Your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times are greatly appreciated.

Please do not hesitate to contact us directly to further discuss our plans or to communicate pertinent information and facts.

Sincerely,

Taylor Steel Inc.
