Job Description
Taylor Steel has a small team of application developers who support the needs of the Company and its stakeholders by developing in-house applications using Progress Software’s OpenEdge development environment. Our application developers work closely with each other and our stakeholders to identify business needs, then design and implement solutions to address them.
We have an immediate requirement within our Information Systems Group for an Application Developer (level 1). The successful candidate will thrive in a team environment, possess excellent technical, problem-solving, and communication skills, and be motivated by seeing their work directly impact business results.
This position is suitable for a new graduate who wants to start building their career with a company that offers a wide range of opportunities to learn and grow.
Responsibilities
The Application Developer will develop and maintain in-house software applications in close cooperation with other members of the software development team.
- Extend and enhance the company’s ERP system while following established standards and procedures.
- Contribute to the review, development, and modification of best practices and technical solutions.
- Work with our employees and trading partners to identify opportunities for improvement and participate in developing and implementing those solutions.
- Provide software technical support by participating in a software help desk rotation.
- Provide after-hours technical support by participating in an on-call rotation (after one year of employment).
Qualifications
- University degree or College diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- Able to develop software in at least one object-oriented programming language.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, possessing strong communication and analytical skills.
- Experience with Progress Software’s OpenEdge GUI for .NET platform and with git (or other version control systems) is an asset but not required – training will be provided.
